Leeds United handed bumper away allocation as thousands expected to descend on Ewood Park

Leeds United have been given their away allocation at Blackburn Rovers' Ewood Park on July 28, with 4,500 Whites fans invited to Lancashire for the pre-season friendly.

This is no doubt a boost to hopes that Leeds will be allocated a full away section at Old Trafford just over a fortnight later in the club's 2020/21 season opener.

Leeds have a number of pre-season friendlies in the interim, but Blackburn appears to be the first in which a large away following will get to witness Leeds United on the road once again.

Visiting supporters will be housed in the Darwen End Stand, which typically hosts away fans.

Leeds United released information around ticketing for the fixture earlier this afternoon.

"Due to the large allocation, tickets will be sold in line with our 2019/20 away ticket policy," the club said, also adding that the 4,500 allocation was 'subject to a potential increase'.

Elsewhere on the friendly circuit, Leeds face Guiseley, Fleetwood Town, as well as Real Betis in friendly matches at the end of July.

Leeds will also travel to Amsterdam to face AFC Ajax in the first week of August, but away supporters will not be permitted due to travel restrictions.

In a statement on Blackburn's club website they announced on the morning of Monday July 19, they will still be operating stringent safety measures for the match which kicks off at 7:30pm in nine days' time:

  • Take a Covid test before you travel to Ewood Park. Test kits can be collected from multiple dispensing points both in Blackburn and Leeds, and the surrounding areas.
  • If you test positive or feel unwell, do not travel to the stadium.
  • Supporters travelling on public transport and when in enclosed public spaces are requested to wear a face covering.
  • Hand-sanitiser stations will be readily available throughout the stadium and one-way systems in the concourse areas will be in operation to help the flow of fans.
  • Wearing a face covering is encouraged when inside the stadium.

In terms of a pricing structure for tickets, Blackburn have decided on the following:

"Tickets for the Leeds friendly, which are priced at £15 for adults, £10 for concessions (over-65s and ages 18-23) and £5 for juniors (under-18s), are now available to home supporters with a database booking history and will remain on sale until 6pm on the day of the game."

Home supporters will be housed in the Jack Walker Stand and Ronnie Clayton Blackburn End.

Given that Leeds' friendly with Blackburn takes place roughly two weeks before the Premier League kick-off, there is hope for a capacity Old Trafford to welcome a Leeds United away allocation on the opening day.
