Leeds United fans confused by FA ruling after Gaetano Berardi's red card appeal succeeds

Leeds United have successfully won their appeal against Gaetano Berardi's red card after the defender was sent off during the 2-1 defeat to Millwall on Saturday.

The Swiss was given his marching orders in the 14th minute of the defeat in south London by referee James Linington after Berardi was adjudged to have brought down Tom Bradshaw in the Whites box.

Replays have suggested minimal or no contact from Berardi, who was then sent off for the eighth time in his Leeds United career.

Jed Wallace would slot home the subsequent penalty, with Bradshaw doubling the hosts' lead just before the break.

Gjanni Alioski would pull one back immediately after the half-time interval but Leeds, playing for 75 minutes with ten men, were unable to find an equaliser.

Berardi had been set for an automatic one-match ban which would have seen him miss the home game against Birmingham City.

A short statement on the Leeds United website reads:

'An independent Regulatory Commission has removed Gaetano Berardi's one-match suspension with immediate effect following a claim of wrongful dismissal.

'The Whites defender was sent off for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity against Millwall in the EFL Championship on 5 October 2019.'

The FA also confirmed that Bradshaw won't be cited for deceiving a match official after it wasn't referred to the panel.

Leeds fans have been reacting to the news on social media with many feeling that Bradshaw was lucky to get away without a ban.
