Leeds United fans celebrate Marcelo Bielsa's final day Pablo Hernandez and Gaetano Berardi call

Leeds United's final game of the season against West Bromwich Albion today is bound to be an emotionally-charged affair.

Earlier this week, it was announced that long-serving duo Gaetano Berardi and Pablo Hernandez would be leaving the club at the end of the campaign.

Berardi and Hernandez played vital roles in Leeds United's promotion from the Championship in 2019/20, and after a season in which neither has featured as much as they would have hoped, Marcelo Bielsa's final day decision is a popular one with supporters.

Both players have been named in Leeds' starting eleven for the game against Sam Allardyce's already-relegated West Brom, with a top-half finish guaranteed for the Whites.

In front of 8,000 Leeds fans for the first time since March 2020, Berardi and Hernandez will get their well-deserved send-off from an impassioned Elland Road faithful.

While not a full house, this is the first opportunity supporters have had to show their appreciation for the work of the entire squad in securing promotion last year, and a top-half finish this season.

Berardi joined the club from Italian side Sampdoria in 2014. Throughout his time at Leeds, the Swiss defender has been commended for his bravery and attitude on the pitch, battling for every ball.

Hernandez joined Leeds United two years later, initially on a six-month loan deal with an option to buy in January 2017.

After a sterling start to his Elland Road career, Leeds jumped at the chance to sign the Spaniard permanently, and the rest is history.

Hernandez created more chances and recorded more assists than any other Leeds United player in each of his four Championship campaigns with the club, before scoring the goal which all but confirmed Leeds' promotion back to the Premier League against Swansea City last July.

Leeds fans on Twitter have been reacting to the team news in droves.

@Matt1LUFC tweeted: "Pablo & Bera, one last time"

@FOREVERLEEDSMOT said: "Bielsa has confirmed that he is the greatest human being on the planet"

@bobby_wilson1 had a final day wish: "All I ask for is some El Mago fairydust. One last time"

@shazryan summed up the mood of those watching from home: "Emotional day, last game of season and saying goodbye to 2 absolute legends. Unlucky in the ballot so not there which is tough. For everyone there enjoy and sing loud for all of us!"

@DaveMCarthy had this to say: "Bit of Pablo magic today please. One last nutmeg."
