Leeds United fans bemoan 'emotional rollercoaster' after injury time defeat at Chelsea

Leeds United fans have criticised their side's reckless defending after seeing the team throw away a lead and losing in injury time to European champions Chelsea in London today.

The Whites went ahead at Stamford Bridge thanks to a penalty from Raphinha, but Mason Mount drew level after 42 minutes.

Raphinha then undid his good work with a reckless challenge on Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger in the Leeds box, giving away a penalty which was scored by Jorghinho.

Nineteen-year-old Joe Gelhardt then came off the bench for Leeds to replace Raphinha, and scored thanks to a ball in from Tyler Roberts, bringing the match to 2-2.

However, the elation was short-lived when another Leeds player, Mateusz Klich, took down Rudiger in the box again, leading to another penalty which Jorginho put away again, winning the match for Chelsea 3-2.

Reacting to the first goal Leeds conceded, @nc_irons tweeted: “Such an avoidable goal to concede. Chelsea pressing high and we try and play it out from the back. Just hit it long!!”

Another user, @doublemcmuffin, added: “Just boot it! Inviting pressure just before half time.”

While @arron_barker5 said: “Thats what happens when u play pass with ur keeper against top teams.”

There was similar frustration with Raphinha's challenge on Rudiger, which gave Chelsea their first penalty.

@NathanPT93 wrote: “Such a stupid challenge.”

There was then some praise for Gelhardt after he scored.

@joshuacfirth wrote: “He is absolutely unreal.”

While @Dangerous_GK simply said: “Joffy > Messi.”

However, the joy soon gave way to disappointment after Klich gave Chelsea their second penalty of the afternoon.

@Run_lenny tweeted: “3 mistakes 3 goals against a poor Cheslea… Relegation fight!!”

It was an afternoon best summed up by @glennlife: “The phrase 'emotional rollercoaster' springs to mind!”

The result sees Leeds settled in 15th place, six points ahead of the relegation spots.
