Leeds United facing significant blow ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Leeds United could be dealt a significant blow ahead of their clash with Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Striker Kemar Roofe is reportedly set to have a medical at Belgium club Anderlecht today, ahead of a potential £7m move.

Roofe was a key figure for Marcelo Bielsa’s side last season as they reached the Championship play-offs, scoring 15 goals in 34 appearances.

But his contribution will be less fondly remembered by Reds fans thanks to the controversial goal he scored in the meeting between the two teams at Elland Road.

Forest were on course for a hard-fought victory against the Whites last October, after Jack Robinson had put them in front.

But with eight minutes to go, Roofe knocked the ball beyond goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon to rescue a 1-1 draw and a point for the home side.

The 26-year-old later admitted he had handled his effort into the back of the net, saying: “It was just instinct”.

According to Leeds Live, Roofe, who is currently recovering from an ankle injury, is in Belgium and is expected to undergo a medical later today.

Sabri Lamouchi’s Reds make the trip to Yorkshire this weekend looking to bounce back from an opening day defeat to West Bromwich Albion at the City Ground.

Leeds, meanwhile, got their season underway with a 3-1 thumping of Bristol City at Ashton Gate yesterday.

But Bielsa has said of potentially losing Roofe: "I can't be happy if Roofe leaves. We have to adapt if it finally happens."
