Leeds United face Rodrigo De Paul transfer dilemma as club legend gets new job

Here is your Leeds morning digest for Wednesday, September 16.

Kent rejection reason

Alex McLeish says a lack of guaranteed football may be why Ryan Kent opted against pursuing a move to Leeds United.

The Whites were keen on the Rangers winger in this transfer window as Marcelo Bielsa looked to strengthen his options out wide.

Rangers rejected Leeds' initial bid for Kent but there was still plenty of speculation that a deal could be done by the time the transfer window shuts in early October.

Yet those hopes were effectively dashed when Kent indicated he was happy at Ibrox and would not be agitating for a move to the Whites.

Former Gers boss McLeish believes Kent's decision could well have been due to the development he has already shown under manager Steven Gerrard.

Rodrigo De Paul obstacle

Football transfers are, more often than not, hugely complicated.

When millions of pounds are involved, they invariably feature several rounds of negotiations amid a mountain of speculation in the press.

This summer, Leeds United have smoothly navigated a couple of eye-catching deals to bring Rodrigo Moreno and Robin Koch to Elland Road from Valencia and Freiburg respectively.

However, their pursuit of Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul is proving much more complicated.

The Whites have been heavily linked with the Argentine for several weeks, with De Paul reportedly keen to link up with compatriot Marcelo Bielsa in the Premier League.

Of course, the player’s desire is not enough to seal the deal with Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo demanding €35-40million for the South American, as reported by Italian journalist Nicolo Schira.

New job for Kamara

Leeds United legend Chris Kamara bagged himself a new gig this lunchtime reading the news after his Goals On Sunday axing.

As some of you might know, Kammy, 62, wasn’t hosting the Premier League highlights show on Sky Sports last Sunday morning. He’s been a mainstay on the programme for 20 years.

Instead, the Goals On Sunday format was squeezed into the general Sky Sports News coverage. This has given former Leeds United player Kammy, who has become a popular pundit and TV presenter since hanging up his boots, Sunday mornings off.

He still remains a regular fixture on the broadcaster’s Soccer Saturday though.

On Tuesday, Kammy tried his hand at reading the news headlines on Channel 4’s new Steph’s Packed Lunch lifestyle programme, hosted by Steph McGovern and filmed at Leeds Dock.
