Leeds United face blow as RB Leipzig eye move to poach transfer chief Victor Orta

RB Leipzig are interested in luring Victor Orta from Leeds United to fill their vacant technical director role, according to reports.

The Bundesliga side are on the lookout for a new candidate after Paul Mitchell, who joined from Tottenham in 2018, left earlier this month to take up a similar role at Ligue 1 club Monaco.

And according to The Independent, Orta is among a list of potential candidates after impressing with his work at Elland Road.

Orta joined Leeds in 2017 after previous spells at Zenit St Petersburg, Elche and Middlesbrough. Then Boro manager Aitor Karanka hailed the talent-spotter after his appointment on Teeside.

“It’s an amazing step for us because his knowledge about football - not just about Spanish football but about every place, anywhere, his knowledge is amazing,” Karanka said at the time.

“His job for the last 13 years has been amazing - Sevilla, Zenit, last season in Elche.

"So we are really, really lucky that he is here with us.

“We are lucky, he is an amazing person.”

At Leeds, Orta's signings have contributed to their rise to the automatic promotion slots, as Marcelo Bielsa's side sit second in the table - seven points clear of third place Fulham.

Orta played a key role in luring Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah and Brighton defender Ben White on loan deals, and was close to landing Swansea winger Dan James, before the transfer collapsed on deadline day in August 2019.
