Leeds United eye Liverpool starlet, Chelsea young gun set for Championship switch - rumours

With under three weeks until 2019/20 Championship season kicks off, clubs up and down the country are scrambling to get their transfer business done.

Leeds United, Bristol City and Brentford have been the division’s biggest spenders, although some of that outlay has been balanced by several departures.

Helder Costa’s move to Elland Road remains the summer’s biggest transaction, following his £15m move from Wolves.

Recently-relegated Fulham, Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town have been relatively quiet in the window as they look to rebuild their squads following their Premier League exit.

With that in mind, we’ve collated all the latest rumours and gossip from across the Championship.

Ryan Kent set for Championship loan?

Liverpool prospect Ryan Kent could be set for a loan move to Leeds United after Marcelo Bielsa was caught watching him play recently.

According to The Scottish Sun, Bielsa delayed his pre-season trip to Australia to watch Kent play vs Bradford City during Liverpool’s friendly.

There’s also interest in Harry Wilson but Leeds’ main focus is on Kent as they are favourites to sign him.

Hugill secures sneaky Wigan move

West Ham striker Jordan Hugill is set for a move to Wigan Athletic after both clubs reportedly agreed over a fee.

According to Football Insider, Wigan have agreed a £3.6m transfer for Hugill, poaching him from right underneath Preston North-End’s noses.

The Championship club will now be hoping the Englishman can help them climb up the table and potentially make a surprise bid for the playoff spots.

Lucas Joao demands transfer away

Sheffield Wednesday star Lucas Joao is reportedly attempting to secure a move to another Championship club as he seeks a fresh challenge.

According to reports, a source close to Joao said: “Joao believes he is being overvalued out of a move. And so he has handed in a transfer request in order to force through a move."

The striker will likely have to wait until Wednesday have a new manager as current boss Steve Bruce is in the middle of securing a move to Newcastle United.

Championship clubs race for Ampadu

Chelsea starlet Ethan Ampadu has not joined the club’s pre-season tour squad in anticipation of a move elsewhere.

According to the BBC, Blues boss Frank Lampard has confirmed Ampadu is set for a loan move, sparking interest from the majority of Championship sides.

The defender is in need of more regular minutes and with there being no real room amongst the current Chelsea squad, it makes sense he should temporarily seek it elsewhere.
