Leeds United evening headlines as Whites on alert as Southampton man available

Good evening, Leeds United fans. Here are your evening headlines for Wednesday, September 23.

The Premier League’s plan for match access for behind closed doors games

Plans are being drawn up by the Premier League for fans who are season ticket holders who remain unable to attend matches that continue to be played behind closed doors.

Test events were being planned for next month to gradually get fans back into stadiums, but those have now been cancelled after Boris Johnson announced tighter lockdown restrictions.

In Tuesday evening’s announcement, the Prime Minister stated that supporters may not be allowed back in stadiums across the country for another six months.

Now, the Premier League is looking into allowing fans to be able to watch their team’s matches in the absence of being able to attend in person with a similar system to the Football League’s iFollow streaming service touted.

Chris Wilder addresses Sheffield United’s issues ahead of Yorkshire derby

Leeds United have the opportunity to move six points clear of their Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United when they visit Bramall Lane on Sunday.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side got off the mark with three points from Saturday’s 4-3 victory over Fulham, while Chris Wilder’s Blades are still yet to pick up a point after losing to Wolves and Aston Villa.

The coach has addressed what has cost his start of the season, pinpointing uncharacteristic defensive errors.

"We went 2-0 down early against Wolves, not from unbelievable creativity from a very good side," he said following Monday evening's defeat to Aston Villa.

"We gifted them two goals. And at Villa, it's not a well-worked goal. We're killing ourselves. If Jack Grealish beats three players and sticks the ball into the top corner, then that's a great goal.

"If we get done on the counter-attack, because we've been ambitious going the other way, you can semi-accept that. But I can't accept the gifts of goals we're giving.”

Southampton goalkeeper made available

Football Insider report that goalkeeper Angus Gunn is free to leave Southampton this summer.

It states that Saints are open to offers for the 24-year-old, who has been linked with a move to Leeds in the past.

Alex McCarthy has established himself as Soutampton’s first-choice goalkeeper over the past year, having come in for Gunn after the role he played in their 9-0 home defeat to Leicester last October.

It remains to be seen whether Leeds are in the market for a new goalkeeper amid uncertainty over the future of Kiko Casilla.

Bielsa welcomed the experienced former Real Madrid sticksman back into the fold after he served an eight-match ban after being found guilty of racially abusing Charlton’s Jonathan Leko last season, but he’s lost his place in the first XI to 20-year-old Frenchman Illan Meslier.
