Good evening, Leeds fans. Here are your evening headlines for Sunday, September 6.
Leeds don’t have funds to sign Barcelona midfielder
Leeds ‘can't financially manage’ the signing of Barcelona’s Rafinha Alcantara, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.
The newspaper claims the midfielder was offered to Leeds having returned from a season-long loan at Celta Vigo.
Barcelona hoped the player’s connection with one of the Whites’ recent signings – he is Rodrigo’s cousin – might encourage Leeds to pursue a deal.
However, the Whites are supposedly not in a strong enough financial position to make a deal possible and Barcelona will have to find another suitor.
Leeds one of five teams in race to sign Belgian youngster
Leeds are in a battle with four other clubs to sign Willem II midfielder Mike Tresor Ndayishimiye.
Het Laatste Nieuws report that Wolves, Standard Liege, Gent and Hellas Verona are also interested in the 21-year-old.
But the two Premier League sides are favourites to secure Ndayishimiye’s signature, mostly because his expected price tag of €7m is eminently affordable for both.
The youngster, who came through the ranks at Anderlecht, has yet to play senior football outside of the Netherlands.
He has impressed at Willem II, though, and looks set to earn a move away. Whether or not it will be to the Premier League remains to be seen.
Leeds backed to impress on Premier League return
Robbie Savage has claimed that he expects Leeds to comfortably avoid relegation in their first season back in the Premier League.
The former midfielder turned TV pundit was giving his verdict on last season’s Championship winners in his column for the Mirror.
And he has backed Leeds to impress under Marcelo Bielsa and with Rodrigo leading the line in attack.
“Marcelo Bielsa coaching in the Premier League will be one of the most fascinating subplots of the season and, as an attacking force, record signing Rodrigo will give Leeds a focal point,” Savage wrote.
“I hope they do well, and they could finish anywhere between the top six and the bottom three, but I suspect it will be somewhere in the middle.”
