Leeds United evening headlines as Spurs star tipped for loan move, Whites sent fitness warning

Here are the Leeds United evening headlines for Thursday, June 11.

Bamford hits out at ‘mindless idiots’ on Twitter after comments on Black Lives Matter protests

Patrick Bamford has responded to a Twitter user who claimed football players should not speak out about the Black Lives Matter movement.

The Leeds forward has been vocal on the issue since protests began following the death of George Floyd, who was killed by police in Minneapolis last month.

“Things have to change, abusing power, privilege and authority,” Bamford wrote on Twitter last week.

The aforementioned Twitter user saw fit to privately message Bamford after this, arguing that footballers should not be expressing their views.

“Mindless idiots like this are the people who need educating the most," Bamford wrote alongside screenshots of the interaction. “Happy to ignore it as long as it doesn’t affect him. I wonder how he would act if the shoe were on the other foot.”

In the direct messages, Bamford wrote: “We have a platform to try to help force change and educate people. The fact you are happy ignoring it and getting on with your life says a lot about you. People like you are part of the problem.”

Former Leeds defender highlights importance of keeping players fit

Leeds will need to ensure they keep players fit when the Championship season resumes, according to Alex Bruce.

The former Whites defender has predicted an increase in injuries over the next few weeks, with players’ fitness levels likely to be hit by the long break.

And he has suggested promotion may depend on which clubs cope best with any potential injuries.

Bruce’s comments came after it was reported that Jean-Kevin Augustin suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring problem.

“When you’re trying to get back to fitness and trying to get back to fitness, without having a proper pre-season, this (a muscle strain like Augustin’s) is a problem a lot of clubs are going to face,” Bruce told Football Insider.

“I think there are going to be a lot of injuries over the next couple of weeks when the season’s back up and running again.

“For people who are going to get over the line in terms of promotions and relegations and things like that, it’s which squad’s going to be able to deal with so many games over such a short period of time, especially with having such a long time off.”

Spurs defender could join Leeds on loan this summer

Tottenham defender Juan Foyth will leave for Leeds on loan in the summer, according to Argentine journalist Nicolas Bozza.

The 22-year-old has made just two appearances for Spurs since the arrival of Jose Mourinho in November.

Foyth is under contract until 2022 but wants to leave Tottenham due to his lack of first team opportunities.

Bozza has claimed the former Estudiantes man will be brought in as a “reinforcement” for Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds, who are on course to join Spurs in the Premier League next season.
