Leeds United evening headlines as Rodrigo questioned, Carlo Ancelotti praises Patrick Bamford

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Tuesday, January 2.

Rodrigo's Spain place in doubt

Leeds club-record signing Rodrigo Moreno could reportedly see his place in the Spain squad under pressure as he continues to adapt to life at Elland Road and in the Premier League.

The Whites signed Rodrigo in the summer from Valencia. It was initially thought that he would challenge Patrick Bamford in the centre-forward position, however, Marcelo Bielsa has mostly used him in an attacking midfield role.

And now Spanish outlet AS, via Sport Witness, reports that Rodrigo's place in the Spain set-up could be under threat as the Euros are just months away.

AS journalist Jonah Perez argues that time is ticking for Rodrigo to establish himself in England and prove that he is worth a place in Spain's squad and starting XI.

Was Raphinha a bargain according to Bielsa?

Rodrigo has started the last nine Premier Leagues, though he has only three goals and one assist since the start of the season.

Ancelotti praises Bamford

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti compared Patrick Bamford with his own English centre-forward, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, ahead of his team's clash with Leeds on Wednesday evening.

Leeds travel to Goodison Park hoping to do the double over the Toffees, with Bamford breaking his mini scoring drought with a fantastic strike in Sunday's 3-1 win over Leicester City.

Ancelotti has heaped praise on Leeds' in-form top-scorer ahead of the clash.

"Honestly I didn’t know Bamford, he plays really well and is a really good striker," Ancelotti said as reported by the ECHO.

"I didn’t know him before, but I have to say he is a fantastic striker. Maybe Dominic [Calvert-Lewin] is more powerful, but in-game Bamford is really intelligent."

Prestigious LFE award for Leeds youngster

Leeds youngster Nohan Kenneh was named on "The 11" list by the League Football Education (LFE) for his impact on and off the pitch.

The award, which honours 11 young players for their "outstanding efforts in all aspects of their apprenticeship" highlights those that have achieved significant success on and off the pitch.

In awarding Kenneh for his work, Lead BTEC Tutor Vikki Slee said: "Nohan has proved to be a highly intelligent and mature scholar, who strives for excellence both on and off the pitch.

"Despite having to train with the Under-23s and first-team squad, as well as his numerous international call-ups, Nohan has managed to work independently, producing work ahead of deadlines to a very high standard.

"He has one piece of work left to complete in order to exceed his original target grade on the BTEC Extended Diploma, which is an outstanding achievement in light of the many challenges he has faced with Covid-related disruptions.

"Nohan represents an excellent role model to all of our apprentices."
