Leeds United evening headlines as Rodrigo Moreno's impact questioned and transfer plans outlined

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines on Wednesday, December 23.

Hargreaves questions Rodrigo

Former England midfielder Owen Hargreaves has questioned Leeds' club-record signing Rodrigo Moreno following the Whites' 6-2 defeat to Manchester United at the weekend.

Rodrigo played the full 90 minutes as Marcelo Bielsa's side conceded six in Manchester, and Hargreaves has his doubts over the Spaniard.

Speaking to The Analysis Show on Optus Sport, the former Man United central midfielder said: “Rodrigo is new to this side, and they’ve spent a lot of money on him. I don’t think he’s got the mechanisms or the timings right.”

Since arriving at Elland Road from Valencia in the summer for an estimated £26million fee, the 29-year-old has scored two goals in 12 Premier League outings.

Kinnear on how Leeds will do business in January

Leeds chief executive Angus Kinnear believes the January transfer window will be quiet in terms of incomings and outgoings to and from Elland Road.

The Whites spent heavily in the summer following their long-awaited promotion from the Championship, and Kinnear has now opened up on what sort of transfer market can be expected from his club next month.

Speaking on the Square Ball's podcast, the club's chief said: “Any purchase we would ever make in January now, and we’ve learnt this in the last couple of years, would really be for next season rather than for this season.

“So it will be very unlikely to see any kind of knee-jerk reaction of filling a position or a gap now.

“It will be more likely to be as players become available and we need them for the long term, which is why, to manage expectations, it’s going to be quiet.”

Martyn urges Whites to sign Tomori

Former Leeds goalkeeper Nigel Martyn has urged his old club to sign Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori in January.

Tomori has been heavily linked with a move away from the Blues recently, after playing just three times in all competitions so far this season.

Now, Martyn has urged the Whites to make a move for the once-capped England international, with Bielsa suffering with some central defensive injury woes recently.

Speaking to The Boot Room, the ex-Leeds man said: "If you can get a Chelsea player, they obviously don’t think he is rubbish.

"Depending on the injuries Leeds need bodies and better the quality – the better it is. If there’s a chance, go and get him. You’ve got to stop those goals."
