Leeds United evening headlines as Rodrigo de Paul speaks out on desire to 'challenge' himself

Here are the Leeds United evening headlines for Saturday, November 14.

Phillips reveals Guardiola praise

Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips has revealed what Pep Guardiola said to him after last month’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City at Elland Road.

The 24-year-old impressed as Marcelo Bielsa’s side battled to a point against Guardiola’s side.

And Phillips has lifted the lid on what the City boss had to say following the final whistle.

"It was a good battle between us,” he told the Times , when asked about facing Kevin De Bruyne. “I felt it was one of my best games. I didn’t get his shirt. I didn’t get anybody’s shirt.

“I was more mesmerised by Pep Guardiola giving me a handshake, and saying, 'Congratulations, well done.' That was nice.”

The youngsters that could save Leeds millions in January

Leeds are unlikely to spend big in the January transfer window after a busy summer following promotion to the Premier League.

The squad now looks in good shape with the additions of the likes of Rodrigo and Robin Koch, as well as several youth prospects.

And it could be that the most gifted youngsters at Leeds soon start to make the step up into the first team.

We’ve taken a look at those players who could save the club some money over the next few months.

Leeds target gives update on future

Rodrigo de Paul has admitted he is unsure where his future lies amid speculation over a move to Leeds.

The Udinese midfielder was heavily linked with a switch to Elland Road over the summer, but a transfer never materialised.

De Paul has made seven Serie A appearances this season, though he has made clear his intention to play Champions League football.

“Here (Udinese) we have the things that make us happy. We don’t need much. This city has welcomed us from day one, we have become parents here. It sounds small, but the way the hospital in this city treated my wife and daughter is very important to me,” the 26-year-old said in an interview with TuttoSport .

“These things create bonds that are difficult to break, it would be very difficult to find a comfortable place like this. I like challenges, I like to grow.

“I want to play the Champions League again, I want to play a World Cup. I prepare myself for this every day, then I don’t know what can happen in the future.”
