Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Monday, June 1.
Liverpool boss heaps praise on Leeds legend
Jurgen Klopp has spoken about how impressed he was with Tony Yeboah when the ex-Whites hitman was playing in Germany.
The Ghanian who joined Leeds from Eintracht Frankfurt in 1995, made a great impression with his goalscoring heroics as well as combating negative preconceptions about black and African players.
In a new book, Made in Africa: The History of African Players in English Football, Klopp is quoted in the Guardian saying: “Yeboah was one of the greatest strikers who played in Germany apart from Gerd Müller.
“He had a big impact on society. In football we never thought about racism. If some idiots were shouting something, you realised it but you were saying: ‘Are you mad? What are you doing?’”
White to stay with Whites
Ben White is set to stay with Leeds for the remainder of the Championship campaign with matches set to recommence in June.
The Telegraph, as reported by Teamtalk, say the on-loan Brighton defender has had his agreement extended by another two months in order to feature in the final nine matches of the season.
White, who had been an ever-present this season, was due to return to the Amex this month but the Seagulls will allow the player to stay at Elland Road.
Leeds currently sit on top of the table, a point clear of second place West Bromwich Albion and seven clear of Fulham in third.
The EFL have set a provisional date for the Championship to resume on June 20.
Leeds rivals suffer blow as star player refuses to return to training
Charlton Athletic’s Lyle Taylor has refused to return the training for the London club effectively ruling him out for the rest of the season.
Leeds had been scheduled to face the Addicks in the final match of the campaign at Elland Road and it looks like Taylor will not be involved.
The club’s top scorer this season is out of contract in the summer and isn’t prepared to risk injury ahead of an imminent exit from the Valley.
“That’s tough for us, that’s tough for me as the manager,” Charlton boss Lee Bowyer told TalkSport. “Lyle’s a big player for us, a bit like Deeney at Watford – when he plays we can win games – and Lyle has said he’s not going to play because of risk of injury.
