Leeds United evening headlines as Radrizzani sets out transfer plans and Edouard tipped for move

Here are the Leeds United evening headlines on Tuesday, July 21.

Edouard "the perfect fit" for Leeds

Former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson has called on his old club to make a move for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard at the end of the season.

Edouard had a sensational season for Celtic as they were crowned SPL champions yet again last term and has been linked with a move to Elland Road.

Robinson said when speaking to bookmakers.co.uk, via the Daily Record: “I really like the boy Edouard at Celtic, I think he’d be an absolutely perfect fit for the way Bielsa plays.

"Or if Fulham don’t go up, someone like Mitrovic, someone of that ilk who is used to playing up top on their own who works hard off the ball but can also score goals.

"The chances will come. When you look back over the course of the last two seasons, Leeds have created so many chances but have dropped a lot of points because they haven’t always been able to convert the chances into goals."

Radrizzani sets out Leeds transfer plans

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani has set out the club’s Premier League transfer plan for the club following their promotion.

Asked if Leeds would break their £18m signing of Rio Ferdinand in late 2000, which is still a club-record, Radrizzani said: "Yes, I think we could break it soon."

Sheffield United, who have been outstanding in the Premier League this season, spent considerably less than Aston Villa, who are struggling in the top-flight this campaign, and could be relegated back to the Championship.

When the Italian was asked who Leeds’ approach would be more similar to, he replied: “I would say we will be more similar to Sheffield United. It’s not only about the money, it’s important we keep the structure and the foundation we have built over three years.”

Leeds parade update as council bosses speak out

Leeds will not be able to celebrate their promotion with an open-top bus parade and a city-wide party, with the council describing it as “simply not possible at this time”.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Leeds City Council has deemed a mass celebration impossible at this present moment.

A council spokesman said: “We are absolutely delighted with Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League and are extremely disappointed that the current situation with coronavirus means that a city-wide event, such as a parade, is simply not possible at this time.

“We would like to reassure fans that, as soon as it is safe to do so, Leeds United’s promotion will be marked in a way that recognises the team’s fantastic achievement and this will include a Civic Reception.”
