Leeds United evening headlines as play-off final impacts transfer and Allen deal to be announced

Here are your Leeds United headlines for the evening of Tuesday, August 4.

Play-off final to dictate Leeds transfer decision

Leeds United are awaiting the outcome of Championship play-off final between Brentford and Fulham before making a move for one of their top summer targets.

The Whites are reportedly among those targeting Brentford’s Said Benrahma, with the 24-year-old currently valued at around £25 million after an outstanding season for the Bees.

TeamTalk claims Leeds could move for Benrahma should Brentford miss out on promotion to the Premier League on Tuesday night, with victory over Fulham set to make it harder to lure the winger north.

Benrahma has been one of the standout performers in the Championship this season, scoring 17 goals and contributing nine assists for Brentford.

Leeds show interest in White team-mate

Leeds are attempting to strengthen Marcelo Bielsa's squad this summer ahead of their return to the Premier League, and while their interest in Brighton centre-back Ben White is established, another Seagulls defender has caught the club's eye.

According to The Athletic, the Whites are also keeping tabs on young defender Haydon Roberts, who trained with the Brighton first-team during the 2019/20 campaign.

The 18-year-old centre-back has made one first-team appearance for the south-coast club and while highly rated, may struggle for regular football at the Amex with Lewis Dunk, Shane Duffy Adam Webster, Dan Burn and White being joined at the club by Joel Veltman last week.

Allen arrival accidentally confirmed

Leeds are expected to confirm the signing of Linfield’s Charlie Allen after a Twitter post from the Northern Irish club was spotted by fans before it was deleted.

The highly-rated youngster will become the club’s third signing of the summer window following the permanent arrivals of Helder Costa from Wolverhampton Wanderers and goalkeeper Illan Meslier from French side FC Lorient.

Allen will be seen as one for the future, although it appears Linfield may have jumped the gun on announcing the move, wishing the forward well on Twitter before quickly deleting the post.
