Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Friday July 31.
Hernandez on ‘sleeping giant’ Leeds United
Leeds United midfielder Pablo Hernandez has opened up on how he views the club as a ‘sleeping giant' and has also praised the Whites supporters.
The Spaniard was a key part of the Leeds team that won the Championship and clinched a return to the Premier League after 16 years away.
And he has spoken about the size of the club and the potential they now hold in the top flight.
“They deserved it, after 16 years, for everything they represent,” Hernandez told SuperDeporte, via Sport Witness.
“We’ve filled the stadium in every game in the Championship and away games have seen 7000-8000 of our fans in the stands. When I arrived, they told me Leeds was a ‘sleeping giant’, and it’s true.
“I’ve been able to see what it means in England and abroad. We went to Australia in pre-season and the fanbase that crawled out was unimaginable.
"It’s great to be able to live all of this.”
Leeds contact Norwich over Buendia
Leeds have made contact with Norwich City over a potential move for Emiliano Buendia following the Canaries’ relegation from the Premier League.
Norwich finished bottom of the top flight and suffered an immediate return to the English Championship. This has opened the door to suitors for their best players, with Leeds identifying Buendia as a target.
The Athletic claims the Whites have made a “small ask” about the 23-year-old who impressed in his debut season in the Premier League despite Norwich's struggles and ultimate fate.
Leeds are believed to be fans of Buendia but are wary of the midfielder's lack of goal threat, with the Argentine netting just once in 39 appearances in all competitions last season.
Lille prepare improved bid for Leeds target
Lille are set to offer Genk €30 million for Jonathan David amid speculation that the striker is a target for Leeds this summer.
The French Ligue 1 side have made the signing of the Canadian forward their number one priority for the summer transfer window, although Everton, Manchester United, Napoli and Leeds are also believed to be interested.
La Voix Des Sports claims Lille will spend the next few days trying to convince Genk that their offer is the best they will receive for David.
