Leeds United evening headlines as Marcelo Bielsa explains tactical plan without Kalvin Phillips

Here are your Leeds United headlines for the evening of Tuesday, July 14.

Norwich boss says club will hold firm on Leeds target

Norwich City manager Daniel Farke believes that Emiliano Buendia will remain at Carrow Road, in spite of their relegation from the Premier League.

Leeds could replace the Canaries in the top flight next season and have reportedly targeted the Argentinian to be one of their summer signings.

“We will grow from this experience. This season was unbelievably important for the development of the club,” Farke told The Daily Mail .

“We are in a solid financial situation. I expect all key players and young prospects are willing to stay and we are capable of keeping them.”

Marcelo Bielsa details plan after Kalvin Phillips bombshell

Kalvin Phillips will miss the final three-match run-in of Leeds United’s promotion push.

The academy graduate has been a key player once again this season, and an ever-present under Marcelo Bielsa when fit. But a knee injury will keep him sidelined for four to five weeks, his manager confirmed.

Bielsa said that he’ll continue to use Ben White in the screening role in his place, with Gaetano Berardi expected to come into the backline.

“He has a problem in the knee and probably is not going to be involved in the last three matches, but in the worst scenario it’s an injury we are going to resolve in four or five weeks,” the Leeds coach told the media in his pre-match press conference ahead of Barnsley.

“I think Ben White,” he added, when asked who was most likely to replace Phillips.

Bielsa coy on Kiko Casilla involvement

Leeds goalkeeper Kiko Casilla is available to return for the final three games, having served an eight-match suspension after being charged with a breach of FA Rule E3, found guilty of using abusive language of a racist nature towards a Charlton striker Jonathan Leko.

Stand-in goalkeeper Illan Meslier has kept five clean sheets in the eight matches in which he’s played.

Bielsa refused to say whether Casilla would be back between the sticks for Barnsley, suggesting he wanted to let his squad know his decision before revealing it to the media.

“I didn’t define the team yet, so I prefer the players know first and after I can make a statement,” he said .
