Leeds United evening headlines as Marcelo Bielsa coy on team news, 'disappointment' highlighted

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Monday, December 14.

Jack Harrison the "biggest disappointment"

Noel Whelan says that Jack Harrison was the "biggest disappointment" in Leeds' defeat to West Ham United. Harrison was hooked at half-time for Helder Costa, and Whelan says that the attacker, who is on loan from Manchester City, has not been at his best in two successive matches.

"Jack Harrison was poor," he told Football Insider. "I was expecting a lot more from him on Friday. That is now two games where he has not been at it. When he is not at his best you really notice the difference.

"It was not clicking at all for him. He struggled against Coufal. We know what he has got in his locker, he has such ability and showed great form at the beginning of the season so that is why we are critical of him.

Bielsa talks extensively on Leeds United's set pieces

"He is a big player for us when he is at his best. He makes the difference but when he is off you can see weakness on the left-hand side.

"His crosses against West Ham were poor and he was the biggest disappointment for me on Friday."

How Arsenal referred to Leeds draw

Arsenal succumbed to their fourth home Premier League defeat in succession on Sunday, falling 1-0 to Burnley thanks to a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang own goal.

The turning point in the match was a Granit Xhaka red card midway through the second half. It was very similar to Nicolas Pepe's red card against Leeds three games prior and, upon consultation with VAR, he was duly sent off.

Afterwards, Burnley midfielder Ashley Westwood, who was on the receiving end of Xhaka's chokehold, revealed that Arsenal players were attempting to emulate their defensive success against Leeds when they held out for the second half in a 0-0 draw.

"It sometimes can work in their favour, it can give them a boost and something to work for," Westwood told Sky Sports after the final whistle.

"I heard them shout 'we've done this at Leeds'. We knew we had to keep switching the ball and eventually, we got there with a set-piece."

Marcelo Bielsa coy on starting XI

Marcelo Bielsa was coy on his starting XI ahead of Wednesday's match against Newcastle United.

Leeds are coming off a desperate loss to West Ham, and with Pablo Hernandez and Jamie Shackleton back in the fold, Bielsa has a host of options. However, when asked about his team, especially in reference to his surprising revelation of his starting XI prior to the West Ham match, Bielsa gave little away.

"It would be incorrect if we thought that knowing the XI of the opponent gives you an important advantage; for me it doesn't give you an important advantage," he said.

"So from now on to avoid any backlash, I will not continue to give answers on the players who can or cannot play on the weekends."

Bielsa did confirm that Patrick Bamford is available after his early substitution against West Ham.
