Leeds United evening headlines as Liverpool make Harry Wilson stance and Kalvin Phillips discusses England training

Here are the Leeds United evening headlines on Thursday, September 3.

Whites turn attention to Liverpool winger

Leeds remain interested in out-of-favour Liverpool winger Harry Wilson, according to a report in the Liverpool Echo.

Wilson spent last season on loan at Bournemouth - who were relegated from the Premier League - but the Welshman’s performances certainly caught the eye.

With the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Divock Origi, Takumi Minamino and Xherdan Shaqiri all ahead of him in the pecking order at Anfield, it may be difficult for Wilson to find a way into Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up.

The report states that Marcelo Bielsa’s side have now joined Newcastle United and Southampton in the race for the 23-year-old.

Phillips speaks on England training

Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips has explained the differences between training with his club side and England, following his first senior call-up.

Phillips was named in Gareth Southgate’s 24-man squad ahead of the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Iceland and Denmark.

Speaking to the England YouTube channel, Phillips opened up on the differences in Bielsa and Southgate’s training sessions: “Yeah, it’s very different. At Leeds, we do more tactical stuff but with England, it’s more possession-based drills.

“It caught me a little bit by surprise and I have been training for quite a long time this pre-season. I was a bit nervous at first when I started warming up but as soon as we got moving it was sound and all the lads made me feel welcome, so it was good.”

Leeds to play Portuguese side in friendly

Leeds will face Portuguese side Paços de Ferreira in a pre-season friendly at Thorp Arch on Saturday, according to Renasenca.

The Portuguese outlet reports that the friendly will be played behind-closed-doors at 1pm on Saturday, as the Whites prepare for their first season back in the Premier League.

Leeds face league champions Liverpool in their first game on Saturday, September 12, at Anfield.

The UK Government recently removed Portugal from its list of countries with travel restrictions, meaning teams from the two countries can now face each other.
