Leeds United evening headlines as Kiko Casilla tipped to leave Elland Road, Cavani latest

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Monday, August 17.

Leeds man tipped for exit

Leeds are finally back in the Premier League but may face an overhaul before the season gets underway.

And Danny Mills has predicted that stopper Kiko Casilla may be on his way out, as Illan Meslier looks set to take the number one spot at Elland Road.

“He might find it difficult,” Mills told Football Insider. "He might want to go and be number one somewhere, and good luck to him.

“People might say that Meslier is very young, but Dean Henderson and Jordan Pickford were young when they got their chance. Goalkeepers aren’t under the same physical pressures that they once were. Teams aren’t putting balls into the box that often. It’s more about shot-stopping and distribution.”

Leeds handed Cavani boost

Edinson Cavani has given Leeds supporters fresh hope of signing the Uruguayan after giving an update on his future.

The striker is currently a free agent after his contract with Paris Saint-German expired, and has been linked with the Whites in recent weeks.

While reports that he was set to sign with Benfica seemed to have put the brakes on a dream move for Leeds fans, Cavani has played down reports that a two-year-deal with the Portuguese club has been signed.

"There were meetings with Benfica and other clubs,” said Cavani. "But nothing is yet defined, so I cannot say that there is a closed agreement.

"When everything is confirmed with a team, they will know it."

With 23 shots against Livingston at the weekend, Rangers still failed to score, with Roofe coming under fire for his performance.

One fan even labelled the striker ‘the worst player ever to play football on earth’, but Roofe is confident he will make a success of the move given his comments when signing for the club earlier this month.

“I know that if you’re second you’re nowhere in Glasgow,” he said. “But that’s the case everywhere. It was the same at Leeds for me and in Belgium with Anderlecht.

"At Anderlecht, if you don’t win in style, it means nothing.”
