Leeds United evening headlines as Kemar Roofe considers Elland Road return and EFL season plan

Roofe refuses to rule out Whites return

Former Leeds hero Kemar Roofe has refused to close the door on a possible return to Elland Road one day.

The striker scored 32 times in his three years at the club before joining Anderlecht last summer in a £7 million deal.

Speaking to the latest edition of FourFourTwo, the forward admitted a return to Leeds wouldn’t be out of the question.

“If the opportunity was right, I’d never say no.” Roofe confessed. “It was massively hard to leave. I was settled and all the fans were incredible, but my contract was up and it’s part of football.

The player feels he has some unfinished business with the club after last season’s playoff disappointment.

“The ideal world would have been getting promoted at Leeds and staying there in the Premier League, but it wasn’t to be. It might still happen for them – it would be amazing.”

Rival boss pays Bielsa the ultimate compliment

Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson has heaped praise on Marcelo Bielsa and the Leeds manager’s coaching techniques.

Johnson, 38, is the longest-serving coach in the Championship and believes the Argentine has helped to raise the bar in terms of quality of management across the division.

The Robins and Johnson have failed to take a single point in four attempts since Bielsa’s arrival at Elland Road, but the City manager can only speak in the highest terms of his Leeds counterpart.

“It’s very interesting to not only watch his teams and study but it’s another thing to feel it as a coach against such a top coach.” he told Anthony Hudson's Masterminds podcast.

EFL contingency plan set to decide Leeds’ fate

Leeds would be promoted to the Premier League if the Championship season cannot be completed.

That’s the preferred option of the EFL if the current suspension of football results in clubs unable to play their remaining fixtures in this campaign.

The Whites sit top of the table with nine matches to play, seven points clear of third place with West Brom in second a point behind.

According to the Guardian, the two clubs would be awarded the automatic promotion spots and the playoffs would still go ahead in some capacity to determine the third side to go up.

However, this is on the basis of the Premier League resolving it’s season and the three relegated sides are decided.
