Here are the Leeds United headlines for Sunday July 12.
Hernandez: I could hardly breathe
Leeds United hero Pablo Hernandez revealed he could hardly breathe after scoring the winner against Swansea City on Sunday.
The Spaniard struck in the 89th minute of the game against his former club to give Marcelo Bielsa’s side a crucial 1-0 victory as the Championship leaders edge closer to promotion to the Premier League.
The goal sparked wild celebrations from Hernandez, who removed his shirt and was mobbed by his teammates on the pitch.
He said: “Afterwards for five seconds I couldn't breathe.
“With the run, the celebration, all the players with me.
"But I'm feeling very well.
“I celebrate a lot because I know it's a very, very important goal.
“These three points give us a good chance for the next game, the next three games to reach the target.”
Leeds could be Premier League club on Thursday
With just three Championship games to go, Leeds United could seal their return to the Premier League on Thursday .
Second-placed West Bromwich Albion dropped points after a 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, Brentford have kept their winning run going after they beat Derby County 3-1.
Although the Bees have clawed back some ground during their six-game winning run, the gap between the two clubs remains at six points, with only nine available.
It means that should Brentford fail to beat Preston North End at home on Wednesday, Leeds will be promoted with a win over Barnsley on Thursday at Elland Road.
However, should Thomas Frank’s side beat Preston, Leeds will have to wait a few more days and would need just a solitary point from their final two Championship fixtures.
White shines for Whites – again
Leeds United supporters are continuing to rave over centre-back Ben White.
The on-loan Brighton and Hove Albion man has been an ever-present for Marcelo Bielsa this season and has played every minute in the league as Leeds look set to return to the top-flight for the first time in 16 years.
The 22-year-old put in another assured display during the Whites’ 1-0 win against Swansea City on Sunday, barely putting a foot wrong.
And Leeds fans were quick to praise White on social media, as were supporters of Liverpool, who urged manager Jurgen Klopp to make a move for him.
White is due to return back to Brighton at the end of his loan spell.
