Leeds United evening headlines as competition for Arsenal starlet emerges, Kent keen on switch

Good evening, Leeds fans. Here are your evening headlines for Monday, August 24.

Leeds face competition in chase for Arsenal forward

Leeds United remain in pole position in the pursuit of Arsenal youngster Sam Greenwood, but the Whites have a number of other challengers to fight off.

LeedsLive understands Manchester United and AC Milan are also interested in the 18-year-old, who would cost an initial six-figure sum. However, the amount paid for Greenwood could eventually rise as high as £3m.

The Athletic also carries reports of Leeds' interest, with the outlet suggesting he could follow Ajax goalkeeper Dani van den Heuvel in linking up with the academy squad at the newly-promoted side.

Greenwood has scored 15 goals in 20 appearances for England’s under-17 and under-18 sides, and struck his first Premier League 2 goal for Arsenal’s Under-23s last season after netting regularly for club's Under-18s.

Leeds have already strengthened their academy ranks this summer with the addition of Cody Drameh from Fulham and Charlie Allen from Linfield.

Joe Gelhardt – a summer arrival from Wigan Athletic – is another teenager of whom big things are expected.

Kent keen on Elland Road move

Leeds might have missed out on Ryan Kent last summer, but the former Liverpool man remains on the club’s radar as they look to bolster their ranks ahead of a maiden Premier League campaign under Marcelo Bielsa.

Kent enjoyed an impressive season at Rangers after the Scottish club paid £6.5m to turn his Anfield loan into a permanent Ibrox switch, scoring eight times in all competition, and has already found the net three times in the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership.

According to 90min, Kent is keen on a return to England after failing to make a Premier League breakthrough for Liverpool, but an initial bid from the Whites fell well short of Rangers’ valuation.

Kent, who spent time on loan at clubs including Bristol City and Freiburg before moving north of the border, left Liverpool with just one competitive first-team appearance to his name.

The 23-year-old scored the only goal of the game in Rangers’ season opener against Aberdeen at the start of August, and has also added goals against St Johnstone and Kilmarnock.

Off-field actions further endear Klich to supporters

Mateusz Klich made a big impact in Leeds’ promotion campaign, finishing the 2019/20 season with six goals and five assists, and has proven himself to be a valuable member of Bielsa’s side.

However, that’s not where his influence ends: Klich, who joined from FC Twente in 2017, has endeared himself to supporters through his other main passion… graffiti.

Working with Leeds-based artist Meds, the Polish midfielder has unveiled his latest creation outside Elland Road, commemorating the Whites’ ascent to the Premier League.

It follows a canvas he created with Meds last year, which represented the first glimpse of Klich’s other creative passion away from the field of play.

The latest work has won Klich praise from Leeds fans, who have shared their reactions on social media.
