Here are the Leeds United evening headlines for Friday, November 27.
Bielsa hails Ancelotti ahead of first meeting with Everton boss
Marcelo Bielsa has made clear his admiration for Carlo Ancelotti ahead of Leeds ’ trip to Goodison Park tomorrow.
The Whites head into the game on the back of a goalless draw with Arsenal last weekend, while Everton were 3-2 winners at Fulham.
And Bielsa has praised the work of Ancelotti as the two veteran coaches prepare to face each other for the first time.
“He has been wanted by all the best teams in the world,” Bielsa said in his pre-match press conference. “He has been chosen by some of the most powerful institutions in football, which shows how good he is.
“The second thing is he has triumphed everywhere he has been.”
Leeds legend claims award nomination is deserved recognition for Bielsa
Leeds legend Tony Dorigo has claimed Marcelo Bielsa’s nomination for FIFA’s The Best Coach of the Year accolade is an acknowledgement of his impact at Elland Road.
The Argentine guided the club to the Championship title last season, earning promotion back to the Premier League after a 16-year absence.
Bielsa’s team managed it in style, too, attracting attention for their high-intensity, attacking approach.
“They understand how amazingly he has done in the English Championship,” Dorigo said on LUTV.
“If you said to me how is it going to go, I would have said if it will go very well or very badly and lo and behold, here we are two years later thinking it has gone tremendously well.
“He has come into a really difficult league – it’s a marathon, it is physically intense – and he has come in and walked the league by eleven points.”
Alioski backed to sign new Leeds deal
Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has backed Ezgjan Alioski to sign a new contract with Leeds.
The 28-year-old is in the final year of his current deal, but Football Insider claim Leeds are set to offer an improved contract worth £30,000 per week.
And Campbell has insisted that tying down Alioski would be “good business” for the club.
“Alioski is a reliable player and he has proven to be that over a period of time,” he said.
“He was an integral part of that Championship-winning team and now he is a Premier League star and he is doing the business.
“You have to tie up these kinds of players because if you do not another club will have them.
“It is smart business by Leeds to enter negotiations and I am sure that he will sign.”
