Leeds United evening headlines as Bielsa contract terms agreed, Ben White update delivered

Good evening, Leeds fans. Here are your evening headlines for Thursday, August 20.

Bielsa’s contract terms agreed

Marcelo Bielsa has agreed terms on a new contract with Leeds United, reports The Mirror’s David Anderson.

Having initially signed a two-year deal when he joined Leeds in 2018, Bielsa is technically out of contract as things stand.

After leading the club to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years, however, it’s no surprise he wants to continue his work at Elland Road.

“Bielsa’s contract is basically done,” Anderson tweeted.

“Terms agreed for next season and Bielsa will pay his backroom staff from his financial package. Just needs signing off on.”

Kinnear gives update on White

With Ben White at the centre of a transfer feeding frenzy to rival anything from the Jaws franchise, Leeds CEO Angus Kinnear has given an update on the club’s attempts to sign him on a permanent basis.

White spent last season on loan at Elland Road and was instrumental in Leeds’ promotion from the Championship.

Having returned to Brighton, however, the young defender has now been linked with Liverpool and Chelsea among others.

“Ben had a wonderful season with us last year and is a player we rate very highly and we know the fans love,” Kinnear told Sky Sports.

“Ben enjoyed his time here and we have made no secret that we would like to bring him here permanently.

“We also have to be very respectful that he is a Brighton player and he is training with them currently.

“There have been discussions, but it is going to be challenging to make him a Leeds United player.

“If it is not Ben White, we have other options that are in advanced stages and we will be closing in on one of them soon.”

Leeds squad numbers released

Ahead of the club’s long-awaited return to the Premier League, the Leeds United squad numbers have come to light via the official online store.

With the release of the new Adidas home kit, fans have been given the option to have names and numbers printed for the new campaign.

There aren’t any big surprises, aside from switches for Pascal Struijk and Leif Davis.

New signings Joe Gelhardt and Cody Drameh have made it onto the senior squad list.

The full squad list is available to view here.
