Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Saturday August 15.
Douglas could reject Celtic offer
Despite playing second fiddle last season and having one year remaining on his contract, Darren Bent believes that Barry Douglas could turn down a move to Celtic in favour of playing in the Premier League.
Sky Sports reported that Celtic had Douglas high up on their list to replace Boli Bolingoli, but Bent believes that the Scottish international will want to test himself in the English top flight.
“The only difficulty is he’s got a year left on his contract and it’s a year in the Premier League,” he told Football Insider . “He might not play as much but everyone wants to play in the Premier League first and foremost so he might look at that situation and come back from pre-season raring to go and say: ‘I want game time in the Premier League.’
“So if he was at the end of his contract then I’d say he’d jump at it but I’m pretty sure that he’s going to want a crack at the Premier League and then maybe assess the situation as he’s going through the season.”
Cascarino tips Bielsa for Barcelona job
After their 8-2 humbling by Bayern Munich on Friday night, Barcelona boss Quique Seiten is expected to be sacked, despite having only arrived at Camp Nou earlier this season.
In their search for a new manager, Tony Cascarino has tipped Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa for the job, while apologising to Leeds fans in the process.
“It’s an incredible job and they will have an incredible number of managers,” he said on TalkSPORT . “Look, if you said to me tomorrow, who would I want to take, sorry Leeds fans I’d take Bielsa every day of the week.
“He’s a Barcelona type… the way they play, the emphasis on young players. Barca can attract the very best players in the world. And if they can do that I’d want a manager of his ilk.
“I’ve seen what he’s done at Marseille, I’ve seen what he does at Leeds. I’ve seen the way he plays football. The fans would love Bielsa. To me, he would be the outstanding candidate right now.
“But that would be a rollercoaster ride.”
Analysing Leeds fantasy football options
One of the bright knock-on effects of Leeds United returning to the Premier League is that supporters will now be able to pick Leeds players in their Fantasy Premier League teams. And given their form under Bielsa in the Championship, the Leeds team has several intriguing options.
Leeds Live analysed the potential players to include. Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling, both priced at £4.5million, offer high-ceiling options in defence. They can score and assist, making them invaluable defensive choices.
Ezgjan Alioski has also been classified as a defender, although he often plays higher up the pitch, while Tyler Roberts is classified as a midfielder but could play as a centre-forward at times throughout the season.
