Leeds United evening headlines as Barcelona forward linked with move, Arsenal defender ruled out

Here are the Leeds United evening headlines for Wednesday, November 18.

Leeds linked with Barcelona forward

Leeds United have reportedly made an inquiry about the availability of Barcelona forward Martin Braithwaite.

The 29-year-old joined the La Liga giants in February after they were given permission to complete an emergency signing following a season-ending injury to Ousmane Dembele.

However, Braithwaite has started just four times for Barcelona and, according to Sport, could be sold in the January transfer window as the club attempt to reduce their wage bill.

Could COVID-19 force Leeds United to do business in January?

West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion have also sounded out Barca over a deal for the Denmark international, but no official bid has yet to be received.

Barcelona paid Leganes £16.1 million to sign Braithwaite and they are hoping to recoup a similar figure if he moves on.

Arsenal defender out of Leeds clash

Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac is set to miss his side’s trip to Elland Road after testing positive for coronavirus.

The result was confirmed this morning and means the 27-year-old will be out of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Nations League game against Italy.

Kolasinac will now have to self-isolate for 10 days and, unless the test is proven to be a false-positive, will be absent when Arsenal take on Leeds this weekend.

That will come as a blow to the Gunners, who will also be without Mohamed Elneny after a positive Covid-19 test.

Leeds fans could soon return to Elland Road

Leeds United fans could return to Elland Road before Christmas, according to the Daily Mail.

There is hope supporters across the country will be able to attend games when the second national lockdown is lifted.

The Department of Culture, Media and Sport have reportedly contacted the government over proposals to allow fans into stadiums in areas where coronavirus rates are low.

That would mean clubs within tier one and tier two areas of the country will again be able to open stadiums to supporters.

These proposals have yet to be given the green light by the government, but it represents encouraging news nonetheless.
