Leeds United evening headlines as £13m target is compared to Haaland, Phillips injury blow

Here are the Leeds United evening headlines for Wednesday July 15.

Expected goals gives Leeds 100+ points

Leeds United should have registered 109 points at this stage of this season – 25 more than they have – according to the Expected goals league table via Experimental 3-6-1 .

The table is based on the quality of chance as created by each team, rather than the actual goal tally, theoretically giving a fairer indication as to how each side is doing.

And the table shows that Leeds would have already surpassed Reading’s colossal total of 106 points from the 2005/06 season.

In the real world, Leeds still have work to do in their final three games, but if things had gone ‘as expected’, then they would have been home and dry long ago.

Leeds suffer Phillips blow ahead of Barnsley match

Kalvin Phillips appeared to struggle after coming on in the second half of the Whites’ match against Swansea, and fans’ worst fears have been confirmed as Marcelo Bielsa has said that Phillips will miss the rest of the season.

Phillips is one of Leeds’ standout players, and the club will miss him when it comes to their crucial final three matches of the campaign.

"He has a problem in the knee and probably is not going to be involved in the next three matches, but in the worst scenario, it’s an injury we are going to resolve in four or five weeks," said Bielsa.

Phillips will hope Leeds have enough to get over the line for promotion to the Premier League, and posted an emotional message on social media following his injury.

Leeds target ‘similar’ to Haaland

Leeds target and San Lorenzo forward Adolfo Gaich has confirmed that there are similarities between himself and Borussia Dortmund star Erling Braut Haaland.

Gaich – who has a £13million release clause in his contract – has been linked with a move to Leeds to play under fellow Argentina Bielsa. And Leeds fans will be happy to hear that he’s already being compared with one of Europe’s top strikers in Haaland.

And while Gaich and Haaland may not have the same stats when it comes to goals, the players physical styles have drawn comparisons from former San Lorenzo midfielder Peton

“Haaland is quite similar on the physical side,” Gaich told TYC Sports. “One of my virtues is my power and I scored many goals for being well positioned (inside the box).”
