Leeds United evening headlines as £10m bill arrives and EFL announce Championship schedule

Here are your evening Leeds United headlines for Saturday, June 6.

EFL schedule announced head of Championship return

Sky Sports and the EFL have announced their plans to broadcast the remainder of the 2019/20 Championship season, with the campaign set to get back underway on June 20.

With 108 matches left to be played, the second tier will follow the Premier League’s lead in resuming the season, with matches being played behind closed doors.

Unlike the Premier League, not every game will be broadcast live by Sky Sports or other rights holders.

Instead, the EFL have announced how fans will be able to follow their teams for the remainder of the season, including how season ticket holders will be able to follow their sides for free.

TV rebate deal agreed

With the coronavirus pandemic playing havoc with the EFL and Premier League seasons, clubs have been forced to pay back millions of pounds to broadcast partners.

Top tier clubs have had to give back £330million as a result of the effects of the outbreak, with the 2019/20 season set to resume soon after a three-month hiatus.

And the figure for Championship clubs has now been revealed, with Leeds and their rivals forced to pay back £10million between them.

The figure is far less than originally feared, after there were initial concerns that EFL clubs could be asked to return as much as £42million.

Leeds make contact over next Vardy

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed Leeds’ interest in signing 17-year-old striker Ricky-Jade Jones.

Jones has enjoyed a promising season with the League One side, having scored four goals in 16 appearances this season.

Several Premier League sides are reported to be tracking the youngster’s progress, with Manchester United among those thought to be interested.

And MacAnthony addressed Leeds’ reported interest in Jones – who has drawn comparisons with Jamie Vardy – with short shrift of Twitter, saying: "Yes, I think they scoop lots of under 21 players up but it was a short chat as we don't sell teenage talent unless its big money."
