Leeds United duo named in Championship Team of the Week

Leeds United bounced back from the disappointment of a draw against relegation-threatened Luton Town last week by seeing off play-off hopefuls Blackburn Rovers.

The Whites made the short trip to Lancashire knowing that Blackburn entered the game on a woeful run of form, suffering two consecutive defeats against Wigan Athletic and Barnsley.

However, there was the overlying concern of a resurgence from the hosts at Ewood Park, as victory would have boosted their top-six hopes and issued a blow to Leeds' charge.

That wasn't an issue though as Leeds stormed into a 2-0 advantage in the first half, with Patrick Bamford opening the scoring early on before Kalvin Phillips' spectacular free-kick.

Marcelo Bielsa's side kept their nerve when Blackburn pulled one back shortly after the restart, with Mateusz Klich restoring their two-goal advantage.

The win took Leeds a step closer to a long-awaited return to the Premier League, putting them just 10 points adrift of securing that achievement.

Stand-out performances from Barry Douglas and the aforementioned Phillips have now earned recognition in the Championship's team of the week, with both earning their spot.

The team was dominated by four Reading players after their thrashing of Luton, with the Royals having three players in the team; Tom McIntyre, Gabriel Osho and Yakou Meite - alongside manager Mark Bowen.

The only other side to have more than one representative was Stoke City following their emphatic win over Barnsley, with Jordan Cousins and Tyrese Campbell getting the nod.

The team is completed by QPR goalkeeper Joe Lumley, Huddersfield Town's Christopher Schindler, West Brom's Matheus Pereira and Brentford star Said Benrahma.
