Leeds United duo Cody Drameh and Charlie Cresswell handed first England U21s starts in Georgia

Leeds United defenders Cody Drameh and Charlie Cresswell have both been handed their first England Under-21s starts this afternoon.

Lee Carsley’s side are set to face Georgia in a friendly following their 3-1 victory over Czech Republic in their latest European Championship qualification match.

Drameh and Cresswell are two of nine changes made by the U21s boss as he looks to hand several members of his squad some international experience.

Fellow Leeds teammate Sam Greenwood has also been named on the bench after being promoted from the Three Lions' Under-20s side in recent days.

Cresswell has been named in Carsley’s last two U21s squad but has played just one minute of football in that time, with Marc Guehi and Taylor Harwood-Bellis the current preferred first-choice partnership.

This marks the next stage of the 19-year-old’s development after the first-team appearances he has been handed at Leeds this season.

After starting the penalty shootout Carabao Cup victory over Fulham, Cresswell then made his full Premier League debut against West Ham United just a few days later.

He also made a short cameo appearance in Leeds ’ latest fixture with Leicester City, coming on as a late substitute in the 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, after receiving his first call up to the Under-21s side, Drameh has now been rewarded his debut alongside his club teammate Cresswell.

Drameh is currently battling it out with Norwich City’s Max Aarons for the first-choice role in Carsley’s XI and has been given his first chance to show what he can do.

The former Fulham debut has also enjoyed a breakthrough few weeks at Leeds, making his first start in the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.

Just a few days later he then came off the bench in place of the injured Jamie Shackleton during the 2-1 win at Norwich.
