Leeds United documentary Take Us Home set for series two after filmmaker's update

Leeds United documentary maker The City Talking has dropped the strongest hint yet Take Us Home will return for a second series.

In August 2019, Amazon released a six-episode documentary series about the Whites and their ill-fated first season under Marcelo Bielsa.

Take Us Home: Leeds United told the story of Bielsa’s arrival n West Yorkshire, Spygate, Daniel James’s transfer collapse, the Aston Villa goal and, ultimately, the play-off loss.

There have been hints here and there, in passing, about a second season since the first aired on Amazon Prime, but expectations diminished as The City Talking’s cameras disappeared for much of last term.

However, the cameras returned with the football season after lockdown and it seems a new effort was made to chart the final nine matches of a campaign which had them on top.

Now, Lee Hicken, the production company’s chief executive, has newly hinted at a second series.

Speaking on Leeds That - Leeds United Podcast last August, Hicken was asked about a second series and he said: “We’re filming.”

Quizzed on when that decision was made, Hicken said: “Within about 10 minutes of Derby. It was like ‘we can’t end like this, we have to keep going.’”

He added: “That’s us saying ‘we have to keep going with this’ and when I say us, it’s The City Talking and Eleven Studios who produced this.

“We were just instantly like ‘no, we have to keep going with this, we have to follow the story’.

“There’s no secrecy or whatever about where it’ll end up. We don’t know, we’re just going to keep going.

“Obviously we talk with people about where that’ll be and what we’re going to do with it and how it’s released and how many episodes.

“None of that is decided now. The only thing decided is we keep filming and see what happens.

“I was with Andrea yesterday and James Mooney (head of media and communications) from Leeds United.

“We were just thinking about how we can make it even better. The methodology all the way through this is how to make it better.

“If they do their bit and get promoted, we do our bit and make the show even better, whether that’s in terms of access or commentary.

“We’ll make the show better, but at the moment there’s no more solid plan than that other than series two hopefully will be the perfect second part of the story.”
