Leeds United digest: Sky Sports figures, Berardi boost, 49ers trip

The international break may be upon the Championship, but that doesn't mean it's all quiet for Leeds United and the league around them.

The Whites slipped to a shock 2-1 defeat against rivals Millwall at the weekend but remain only a few points off the summit heading into a fortnight off.

Marcelo Bielsa's side remain firmly lodged in the battle for promotion, with plenty left in the tank as they look to outsmart their rivals and reach the Premier League.

But though there's no games for the next few days, there's still plenty to chew on in West Yorkshire.

Whites win appeal over Gaetano Berardi's red card as suspension is rescinded

United won't be missing their Swiss defender after all, after they managed to get his ban overturned following his straight red card at the weekend.

Though the decision arguably comes too late for some, after the call changed the dynamics of the loss at the Den, it does mean that Leeds won't lose another key player at the back.

Captain Liam Cooper is expected to be sidelined for the near-future through injury.

Barnsley sack Daniel Stendel as manager - with familiar faces linked to role

The Whites' rivals from South Yorkshire have parted ways with the German following their difficult start to the season, and now begin the hunt for a new name.

Former United boss Neil Redfearn - who spent much of his playing career at Oakewell - has been tipped by the bookies to be one such candidate.

Another ex-Leeds supremo, Steve Evans, has been linked with the vacant position at Millwall too, though his odds have since lengthened.

Are late goals costing Bielsa's boys advantage in Championship race?

Research has shown that, so far this season, United's concession of efforts in the closing minutes have knocked them down the table some what.

In fact, if injury-time goals were struck from the record, they would be top of the pile heading into the latest international break.

Leeds have left it late on occasion this season, with their win over Barnsley requiring a late flurry to seal the deal.

We've crunched the numbers here.

Movers and shakers enjoy San Francisco adventure

Owner Andrea Radrizzani. plus Angus Kinnear, Victor Orta and Paul Bell, certainly haven't wasted any time during the international break too, after they made a trip out west to California to meet up with the San Francisco 49ers.

The investment arm of the NFL outfit owns a minority stake in United and the key Whites men were on hand to watch them defeat the Cleveland Browns 31-3 at Levi's Stadium.

The 49ers currently sit top of NFC West and are on track to reach the playoffs as it stands.

Here's more on that.

Are Sky Sports falling out of love with Leeds?

The broadcasting giant's often frequent selection of United games for broadcast has often caused some consternation at Elland Road, as matches ping-pong around the schedule to accommodate television needs.

But for once, they do not lead the charts in the Championship for the club with the most games picked to be shown on the box.

Instead, West Brom have the honour, with nine compared to Leeds' seven.
