Leeds United defender gets brutal rating after World Cup 'flop' performance

Leeds United defender and Danish international Rasmus Kristensen has received a '2/6' rating from Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet after his poor performance against Tunisia in Denmark's opening Group D match of the 2022 World Cup.

Kristensen played all 90 minutes of the match but was booked after just 24 minutes for a late challenge on Tunisian midfielder Aissa Ladouni as the match finished 0-0.

The highest rating any player received was goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel who was given a 4/6 after keeping the Danes in the match with some fantastic saves but most of the side averaged only a three.

Only Kristensen and right-hand-side teammate Skov Olsen received ratings of two after their lacklustre showing going forward and the Leeds defender's poor defensive quality throughout the match.

"He does not really get to the big one in the right side together with Skov Olsen," the newspaper wrote.

"They do not become dangerous. It’s not because he flops, but Nissen just doesn’t do anything offensive that is good enough and that we expect from him and have seen from him. He tries, but did not succeed."

Kristensen has started 12 matches for Jesse Marsch's Whites this season since signing for them in the summer transfer window from Red Bull Salzburg and even found an assist in the 4-3 loss to Tottenham Hotspur just before the tournament began.

Kristensen will hope for a second chance in their next match against reigning champions France who beat Australia 4-1 on Tuesday night and look clear favourites to top Group D.
