Here is your Leeds United morning digest for Wednesday, July 1.
Liam Cooper injury blow
Leeds United are set to be without captain Liam Cooper for the clash against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park this weekend.
Cooper was forced off through injury during the 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Luton Town on Tuesday, raising fears of his unavailability.
While the skipper is not expected to be sidelined with a long-term issue, Marcelo Bielsa has stated he is unlikely to feature this weekend.
"He feels something in the lower back/glutes, but don’t think he’s going to play in the next match," Bielsa said after the match.
13 points to go
Leeds United require just 13 points from their final six matches to seal a long-awaited return to the Premier League after the 1-1 draw with Luton Town.
Brentford's victory over Reading saw the London outfit close the gap in the hunt for automatic promotion but Marcelo Bielsa's side are in the driving seat.
As it stands, Leeds could seal promotion to the top-flight after their upcoming midweek clash with Barnsley in a few weeks time - but the celebrations could be sparked sooner.
Any dropped points for Brentford would provide Leeds with a boost and they will be hoping the likes of Wigan, Charlton and Derby.
Kinnear makes Mitrovic dig
Angus Kinnear has taken a sly dig at Fulham’s banned striker Aleksandar Mitrovic after his elbow in Ben White’s face on Saturday.
Yesterday, The Football Association banned him for three matches after Mitrovic admitted it constituted violent conduct, and Angus Kinnear made a sly dig towards the forward in his pre-match programme notes.
“The key opening exchange saw Aleksandar Mitrovic’s elbow on Ben White almost inadvertently render the Serbian striker homeless,” he said.
“Fortunately, Ben was quick to recover allowing ‘Mitro’ to continue to reside in Ben’s pocket for the remaining 88 minutes."
