Leeds United deadline day, transfers, summer plans, injuries - your questions answered

Leeds United can now look ahead to the second half of their Premier League campaign after the January transfer window closed.

As expected, there was no late deadline day drama at Elland Road, with no new arrivals coming in.

There were some departures, with Rafa Mujica, Conor Shaughnessy and Jay-Roy Grot all sealing deadline day moves away from Leeds.

Meanwhile, Marcelo Bielsa's men are preparing for their next match at home to Everton on Wednesday (February 3).

Was Raphinha a bargain according to Bielsa?

LeedsLive's Leeds United writer Beren Cross was on hand to answer your questions on a range of topics on Monday evening. Here's a full recap...

Korzhi asks: Ryan Kent or Daniel James for Costa place in the summer?

BC: Very plausible suggestions. Costa's place is absolutely up for debate and will surely be a wage they look at in the summer if they want to improve the squad.

We know Bielsa likes Kent and James too. James seems more attainable than Kent based on playing time, but surely Leeds in the PL under Bielsa with regular minutes would appeal to both of them.

marksmith96 asks: Olly Casey loan move unlikely after playing for the u23s earlier?

BC: It does seem that way. Naturally, anything can and does tend to happen in football, but playing for them today would suggest something needs to happen very quickly if it was going to beat the 11pm deadline.

The noises from Elland Road did suggest there were no offers guaranteeing the minutes they would want for him.

Paul@1972 asks: Grandkids just wondering where was Marcelo magic blue bucket against Leicester?

BC: Great question and, to be honest, I'm not sure. It did strike me as strange how much time he spent in the technical area either standing or down on his haunches rather than back on the bucket.

msc24 asks: Low expectations from me against Leicester but what a performance! As much as I like Rodrigo, I thought the midfield 3 of Phillips, Klich and Dallas looked quite solid, may be an option against the top teams in the future. Any idea when Koch will be available for selection again Beren? Struijk was excellent yesterday but I'd love to see what Koch and Llorente can do together one day!

BC: Yeah, completely caught me off-guard too. Did not see a performance like that happening at all. Klich, Dallas and Phillips rolled back the months and looked like that solid middle we have come to love under Bielsa. They work so well together and know each other so well. Klich needed that display too.

As for Koch and Llorente, we have been told to expect them both back around late Feb/early March. Struijk did brilliantly yesterday and that will be a shot in the arm while the team is dealing with the absence of the two internationals.

msc24 asks: In the summer I think we need a back-up GK, left back, centre midfielder and back-up striker.

BC: I don't think you're too far wrong there. It does feel like a natural end point for Casilla, although I felt that way last summer and he may choose to stick it out again. While Dallas has been excellent, left-back does seem to be an obvious slot to fill with a natural option there. Central midfield feels fairly obvious to everyone with the Cuisance pursuit, injuries and inconsistent form.

A back-up striker seems harder to predict with Roberts and Rodrigo already in place. Bamford is evidently not going to be supplanted anytime soon. Surely the other two have that role covered if they lost Bamford for a prolonged spell?

BenSchofield7 asks: What players do you think we will attempt to make an approach for in summer, if/when we stay up

BC: Someone mentioned Kent and James earlier. They still seem like the level of player Orta will look to in the summer. Sean McGurk at Wigan looks like one they will revisit, but that will be for the under-23s of course. With the financial plight of Ligue 1, I would be amazed if there wasn't some great value to be found in France a la Raphinha.

Craig92 asks: Any Chance of Milner in summer if available on free transfer, looks suited to Bielsa can play numerous postions.

BC: As I was watching MOTD last night I thought about Milner again and whether it would work. The sentimental among us think it looks so straightforward and easy, but it's so much more scientific and business-minded than that in the boardroom. A Bielsa player, absolutely, but will it happen? Still feels fanciful.

Craig92 asks: Based on the feelings around club, if Bielsa gets recruitment and development he wants. Will he sign for another season. I guess the board know who they want to replace him as won't be around for ever

BC: I doubt Bielsa even knows what hes doing next season yet. He genuinely does not sit down and discuss these things until the campaign is done and dusted. Twelve months at a time, never looking further ahead than the next game.

judy84 asks: Different criteria for transfers from France after Brexit transition?

BC: Only for the young ones. With the waters Leeds are now fishing in, the vast majority of players they are going to be interested in should have the international exposure or club experience to fly through the new requirements for a work permit.
