Leeds United cool over Eddie Nketiah future amid Arsenal recall claims

Leeds United are cool over the future of Eddie Nketiah amid claims of Arsenal could recall the young striker and that Bristol City are monitoring his situation.

Nketiah has made eight appearances for Leeds this season, six of which have come in the Championship, with two appearances in the Carabao Cup.

Each of the 20-year-old's appearances in the league have come from the bench and he has managed the full 90 minutes on one occasion.

Despite his lack of game time, the England Under-21 international has contributed to four goals for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

It was revealed on Sunday morning by The Sun , that the Robins are still keen to sign the striker, after losing out on his signature to Leeds prior to the transfer window closing.

But Leeds believe Nketiah will be a key player in the coming months and have no worries that the Gunners will cut short his spell.

The club's managing director, Angus Kinnear, confirmed that the loan contract agreement does contain a January recall clause while talking on fan podcast Talking Shutt last month.

""It's fairly standard in these contracts to have January recalls but the decision is based on how well the loan's going so if the players are playing, and they're playing well, and they're enjoying their football and they're developing, which I think we can evidence in both Ben (White) and Eddie's case, then you'd be fairly confident that they recall wouldn't be activated by the parent club."

On the importance of signing Nketiah, Kinnear said: "Eddie scores goals for fun. It's a very competitive process to get that type of player, he's very expensive for a loan, but he's held in huge regard by Arsenal .

Nketiah not going anywhere according to Managing Director Angus Kinnear (PA)

"I don't think there's a safer pair of hands to entrust him to than Marcelo.

"It was competitive but we back ourselves in those types of situations because, I think we were an unknown entity last year and when we lost out on someone like Harvey Barnes I think we knew we wouldn't lose out on that type of player again because we could put a more compelling case together about why Leeds United is the best place for them to be."

Nketiah was on the scoresheet for the third time for England Under-21's this season as they drew 2-2 with Slovenia on Friday night.
