Leeds United confirm signing of France U20 goalkeeper Illan Meslier on loan

Leeds United have confirmed the signing of teenage goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old has joined from French second tier side Lorient after making 30 appearances for them last season, where he notched up 11 clean sheets.

Meslier arrives as back-up to Kiko Casilla following Bailey Peacock-Farrell's move to Burnley last week and could be involved in the Leeds squad for the Nottingham Forest match at Elland Road on Saturday, subject to international clearance.

The stopper played in this summer's Under-20s World Cup for France after progressing through the under-18 and under-19 levels and has previously been linked with Monaco and Chelsea.

With Casilla the undisputed number one, Meslier will be hoping to slot in ahead of under-23s duo Kamil Miazek and Will Huffer in the goalkeeping pecking order at Elland Road.

Following Meslier's arrival, Leeds' focus is now on securing a replacement for Kemar Roofe, with Eddie Nketiah and Ryan Kent the two targets that Leeds have been working on this week.

The deadline shuts at 5pm this afternoon.
