Leeds United confirm goalkeeper exit as deal is agreed with newly-promoted second-tier outfit

Goalkeeper Elia Caprile has departed Leeds United on a permanent transfer without making an appearance for the first team. The 20-year-old arrived from Chievo in January 2020 and played frequently with the under-23s.

After 18 months with the youth side and frequent trips with the senior squad as a third-choice stopper, Caprile returned to Italy on loan last summer. Third-tier Pro Patria game him regular first-team football throughout last season.

Bari, who were promoted from Italy’s third tier last term, have reached an agreement with Leeds for Caprile. The goalkeeper was praised by Victor Orta for the bravery he showed in making the move to West Yorkshire in 2020.

Caprile's time at Leeds was spent backing up Illan Meslier and Kiko Casilla in the main as Marcelo Bielsa took the side from the Championship to the Premier League. A Leeds statement said: "We thank Elia for his efforts and wish him well for the future."
