Leeds United confirm first transfer of the January window with loan switch

Leeds United have confirmed their first transfer of the January window with a fresh loan switch for striker Ryan Edmondson.

The 20-year-old will spend the second half of the season in League Two with promotion hopefuls Port Vale.

Edmondson had signed a season-long loan deal with League One Fleetwood Town in the summer, but that spell has been cut short.

The former York City prospect had been taken into Highbury Stadium by former Elland Road boss Simon Grayson, but Edmondson made just four league starts.

Grayson was sacked in November and Stephen Crainey has only used Edmondson three times since his arrival more than five weeks ago.

Edmondson scored twice for the Cod Army with both strikes coming in the EFL Trophy, but he heads now to the fourth tier for the first time.

Last term, spells in the Scottish top flight with Aberdeen and League One with Northampton Town did not deliver the goals Edmondson wanted. He will hope they flow in League Two.

Edmondson’s Leeds contract expires in the summer of 2023.
