Leeds United coach Carlos Corberan has been installed as a firm favourite to take over at Huddersfield Town.
The Whites' Yorkshire rivals are on the lookout for a new manager after sacking Danny Cowley over the weekend.
It was a move that seemed surprising, with Cowley all but securing the Terriers' safety with victory over West Brom on Friday - a result that also guaranteed Leeds promotion.
Yet the Terriers appear to have already identified Cowley's replacement - and it could well be Corberan.
The Spaniard is 2/7 odds-on favourite to take the job having built a strong reputation with the Whites.
A former Villarreal fitness coach, Corberan was appointed Leeds under-23s boss in 2017 and has impressed in the role, leading them to become Professional Development League champions last season.
His work with the under-23s also saw him promoted to Marcelo Bielsa's first-team staff.
There was interest from Spanish side Cultural Leonesa last season but Corberan opted to remain at Elland Road.
Yet an approach from Huddersfield represents a much more high-profile role and could prove more tempting for Corberan.
The Athletic's Phil Hay has claimed that the Whites will not stand in Corberan's way should he opt to take the role but that a compensation package would need to be agreed.
Corberan is the heavy favourite for the Huddersfield role, with second-favourite Diego Flores a distant 10/1.
The 37-year-old played as a goalkeeper for hometown club Valencia, failing to make an appearance for their first team before hanging up his boots at the age of 23 to concentrate on coaching.
He joined Villarreal at the age of 26 and eventually became assistant to Manuel Pellegrini.
Prior to joining the Whites, Corberan had a taste of management when he took charge of Cypriot sides Doxa and Ermis.
