Leeds United clinch another signature as they continue their Premier League preparations

Alfie McCalmont is the latest Leeds United youth prospect to commit his long-term future to Elland Road.

The 20-year-old midfielder is one of Marcelo Bielsa’s favourites in the under-23 ranks and blooded him with two EFL Cup appearances in August last season.

McCalmont, who also played for Northern Ireland’s senior international team last term, has signed on with the Whites until 2024.

The midfielder came through the ranks at Thorp Arch alongside the likes of Jamie Shackleton and Robbie Gotts.

McCalmont follows the signatures of Mateusz Bogusz, Oliver Casey and Bobby Kamwa in recent weeks as Victor Orta looks to tie down United’s best young talent.

Since attaining Category One status at the academy, the club has pushed through a recruitment drive with England youth internationals Joe Gelhardt and Cody Drameh arriving.

Dutch goalkeeoper Dani van den Heuvel also signed on this week.

McCalmont may be among those outside the first team who move out on loan next season to play senior football on a regular basis.
