Leeds United chiefs set for crunch Marcelo Bielsa meeting on his contract and transfers

Marcelo Bielsa will sit down with his Leeds United bosses to thrash out the details for his new contract and the club’s assault on the Premier League next week.

The Whites secured promotion and then the Championship title across Friday and Saturday before they even kick a ball at Derby County on Sunday.

The 2020/21 campaign is expected to start in early September, giving all concerned at Elland Road around six weeks to get their house in order for kick-off.

The absolute priority for Andrea Radrizzani, Angus Kinnear and Victor Orta is ensuring Bielsa is tied down to a new deal.

Bielsa is not expected to produce any surprising obstacles in their discussions, but he will make demands of the club on and off the pitch if they are to be competitive in the top flight.

Chief executive Angus Kinnear spoke to the media a short while after the championship was confirmed, and he made it clear there will be no time wasted dwelling in promotion.

“The planning starts now,” he said.

“I actually sent a message to all the staff congratulating them and telling them we need to remember this experience and this moment because we need to start on Monday making sure this isn't a one-off, this is the type of thing Leeds get to celebrate in the future.

“So Victor, Andrea and I will be straight in with Marcelo next week, talking about plans for next season.

“Exactly as we did at the start of this season. He has a review, he knows the direction he wants to take the club in and it'll go from things we need on the playing side right through to changes he wants to be made at Thorp Arch and the backroom staff.

“Obviously his own personal arrangements as well we need to resolve.”

Bielsa agreed to a 12-month extension last summer after a list of demands were met for the playing squad and Thorp Arch.
