Leeds United chief visits Man Utd match as Daniel James talks may spark new bid for Rangers winger

Wales international Daniel James is at the centre of a complicated transfer scenario involving Manchester United, Leeds United and Rangers, according to reports.

New reports have emerged in the Manchester Evening News today thate Leeds chief executive Angus Kinnear attended United's Carabao Cup win at Luton last week, where James was an unused substitute.

Even though Kinnear is a boyhood Luton fan, he obtained a scout's pass to attend the game and met James, 22, when his move to Leeds collapsed on deadline day in January 2019.

Leeds have identified James as their number one target for a loan move before Monday's deadline, but will reportedly turn again to Rangers winger Ryan Kent if the James deal can't be done.

James is adamant he wants to stay at Old Trafford as things stand, but the prosepctive signing of Jadon Sancho could change that, with the Welshman pushed further down the pecking order.

The Sun report Leeds will make a new bid of around £14m for Rangers winger Kent if James stays at United - an increase on the £10m offer they reportedly saw rebuffed earlier in the window.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa remains a long-term admirer of James, having tried to sign him during last year's January transfer window, only for the deal to sensationally collapse during a dramatic deadline day.

James started United's opening day defeat to Crystal Palace, before being left out of the squad for their second Premier League fixture against Brighton last weekend.

Leeds have previously been linked with making a £12m permanent bid for James in this window.

But that falls well short of United's value and the Old Trafford giants would only consider a loan move. Even that is dependent on them bringing in new attacking players. You can read about his estimated value of £69m here.
