Leeds United chief opens up on Arsenal recalling Eddie Nketiah in January

Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear says that he'd be surprised to see Arsenal recall Eddie Nketiah after his stunning start to life in Yorkshire.

The 20-year-old has scored four goals in six appearances for the Championship side; an impressive tally considering his four league appearances have been from the bench.

Given the injury to Alexandre Lacazette, some supporters have urged the Gunners to bring Nketiah back to the Emirates Stadium saying that the prolific youngster could be a huge boost to Unai Emery's squad.

However speaking to the Talking Shutt fan podcast , Kinnear said that he'd be surprised to see Arsenal bring the young striker back to London.

He said: "Whereas before it might just be financial, now they’re looking at the development curve.

“How much playing time are they going to get? What kind of environment are they going to be in?

“Eddie playing in front of 35,000 people who are hugely demanding is exactly the kind of experience he needs for when he’s going back to Arsenal and plays at the Emirates.”

Kinnear added: "It’s fairly standard in these contracts to have January recalls but the decision is based on how well the loan is going.

“If the player is playing and they’re playing well and they’re enjoying their football and they’re developing, which we can evidence in both Ben (White, on loan from Brighton) and Eddie’s case, you can be fairly confident it won’t be activated by the parent club.”
