Leeds United chief Angus Kinnear delivers a contract update on Kalvin Phillips

Kalvin Phillips is wanted at Leeds United and he remains at the heart of their plans for Premier League football, according to Angus Kinnear.

Speaking to fans at an event in Perth on Wednesday afternoon, the managing director moved to assure fans the club is in talks with the midfielder and want to keep him at Elland Road.

Talks between the player and the club continue after the first offer was made a little under two weeks ago, which as it stands, has not been enough to secure his signature.

While the transfer window remains open, Phillips, one of the Championship’s best players, remains a possibility for cash-rich Premier League outfits.

However, Kinnear insisted they were doing what they could to tie Phillips down and make it clear to him they wanted him to play in the top flight, but with his hometown club.

“We want to keep our best players. Kalvin is very much part of our team, he is very much part of our plan,” said Kinnear.

“He’s been back in training and he’s training like an absolute demon. He came second out of the whole squad for the bleep test on the first day back.

“Adam Forshaw came first, but he’s an absolute machine.

“We are talking with him about a new contract and we are very clear we want him to play football in the Premier League and we want him to play football in the Premier League with Leeds United.”
