Leeds United break unwanted 10-year old stat in dramatic late Tottenham defeat

Leeds United have become the first team in almost 10 years to lose a Premier League match in which they have been leading on three separate occasions. The Whites were beaten 4-3 at Tottenham Hotspur following Rodrigo Bentancur's quickfire brace in the final 10 minutes.

Leeds had gone in front through Crysencio Summerville inside the opening 10 minutes, with Rodrigo Moreno also putting Jesse Marsch's side 2-1 and 3-2 ahead. But Leeds failed to hold onto any of those leads and left the capital frustrated and empty handed.

Newcastle United were the last team to do so on Boxing Day in 2012, when they were beaten 4-3 at Manchester United. Giving away leads is something that has not been uncommon for Leeds so far this season, having done so against Bournemouth, Liverpool, Fulham and Crystal Palace, as well as Saturday, in recent weeks.

Marsch addressed this issue in his post-match press conference at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He admitted that Leeds must find a way to become 'more stable defensively' during moments in matches after taking the lead.

He said: "I always try to look at the positives and I really like a lot of the things that that we're able to accomplish and certainly the men in the team. But it's just a lot of moments when we're in control of matches we can't seem to stay on top of the match. But in the second half at 2-2, we were really good, really good.

"The reason we got the lead up to go to 3-2 was because we were on top of the match. Right now we give leads up so quickly, whether it's Bournemouth 1-0, whether it's Liverpool, 1-0, every time that we got the lead today we found a way to give it up so we've got to find a way to be more stable defensively and now handle moments in matches."
