Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa reveals Kalvin Phillips hope after last-minute shoulder injury

Leeds United's end-of-season finale saw the Whites complete a lap of honour in jubilant mood, following a 3-1 victory over already-relegated West Bromwich Albion.

The Whites were comfortably the better side as Rodrigo from a corner, Patrick Bamford from the penalty spot and Kalvin Phillips from a free-kick helped Leeds into a three-goal lead.

Phillips was at the centre of West Brom's goal, slipping in the final stages of the game, allowing Hal Robson-Kanu to fire past Kiko Casilla, but it was nothing more than scant consolation for the Baggies.

In the final moments of the match, Phillips lunged in, executing a strong tackle for which he was subsequently booked on the far side of the pitch.

The England international immediately held his shoulder, as he appeared to injure it as he landed on the Elland Road turf under the weight of the West Bromwich Albion player.

The 25-year-old hobbled from the field, taking some time to get to his feet, before being ushered from the pitch, looking to be in some discomfort.

Now, the fear is that Phillips may have suffered a dislocated shoulder, which would seriously jeopardise his place within Gareth Southgate's England squad for the European Championships.

England's EURO 2020 campaign kicks off in a matter of weeks, meaning it could be a race against time for the defensive midfielder - who has been so effective for Leeds and England this season - to prove his fitness.

Speaking immediately following Leeds United's final day victory, Marcelo Bielsa spoke to the media and provided an update on the injury suffered by Phillips.

"I couldn't tell you if the injury is severe or not but I hope that he can go to the Euros," he told BT Sport.

"Sincerely I haven't received any information to the gravity of the injury. We all hope that it's something that can resolved quickly.

"Knowing the fortitude of Kalvin, I know he has the resources to quicken any problem he may have," he said in his post-match press conference.

Phillips will be assessed by the Leeds United medical staff following the injury to his shoulder.

From there, it will become clearer whether he will be able to play a part in England's squad this summer.
